Praying with a Sense of Hearing
Listen to the silence of God
As there is often silence between us as humans, so can there be silence between God and us.
We can also experience these silences in our prayer. We often ask God for something and he does not seem to answer for various reasons; he wants us to wait; he wants to keep us in the dark as
not all knowledge is good for us; he may know the answer lies just down the road and we will receive it soon; etc. At times his silence expresses mercy and forgiveness, at other times it may be
reproachful and is meant to lead us to repentance; or sometimes it may just be wonderful and loving silence in which we feel as if we were in heaven. All silences of God tell us something, though
we may sometimes think the meaning hard to find.
Let us meditate on this silence
- Find a comfortable posture close your eyes and quiet yourself focus on your breathing slow it down consciously
- Become aware of God's Spirit living in you ask him to guide you in your prayer experience so that you may sense God in the silence...
- Imagine Jesus standing before you but he says nothing look at him focus on his expression just stay with the silence let it speak to you after a time you may realise what the Lord wants to
tell you (or what he wants you to experience) let him do to you what he wants with his silence these moments can be very precious so do not dread them stay with the silence as long as you
can
- When you feel the time is right, begin to close your prayer and thank God
- Slowly and gently open your eyes and end the prayer.
